Dr. Jordan Letter to Clients
In the large animal years, it was just me. Late nights, middle of the night emergency calls, early morning emergencies and horrible weather. It was not all bad. There were beautiful days, picture perfect farm settings, wonderful clients and animals that quickly attached themselves to my heart. I have shed many tears along the way. I have given much of my heart to the clients and animals that have departed this world during my tenure as their caretaker. I have made mistakes and felt grief. Suffered my own losses, but I had to keep going. My heart has paid a steep price for the sacrifice, love, and emotion that I have given of myself over the years as a veterinarian. You have given back to me as well: Stories and memories, relationships, love, and trust. Don’t even get me started on the stories, OH the stories! Many laughs and stories have been shared around the vet truck. I say all this not to justify my decision to you but in hopes that you will truly understand that I need to take time away from the loss and grief and stress and the emotional pain that comes with not just being a veterinarian but being THE veterinarian that everything relies on. That everyone relies on. I need to put myself and my wellbeing first for a bit. I cannot say that I will never be back, but I cannot put a time frame on it just yet. I am not saying, “Goodbye.”
Please know that I am stepping away from Bear Creek on my own terms. I am leaving this practice as a proud momma that has created, reared, mentored, and cared for a child that is now ready to be independent and on its own feet. There may be some stumbles along the way, but I have faith in them and expect great things and proud momma moments of watching the veterinarians and staff that will continue to care for you and your babies. They are still the same compassionate ladies that have been working alongside me for years and remain steadfast in their desire to provide the best care they can. The next 10 years may look a little different than the last 10 years as both myself and Dr Pike will not be there. However, I am looking forward to new faces as it is the sincere desire of the practice to add two additional doctors to replace the two spots that are being left vacant by myself and Dr. Pike. All I ask is that you are patient and kind. Please treat them with respect and compassion. Everyone in veterinary medicine suffers loss right along with you. Be nice to them knowing that they are doing all they can to help you and your babies.
In closing, my last day at Bear Creek will officially be November 26th. I will impart as much wisdom and support to the new leaders as I can before I depart, but then it is up to them to carry the torch forward into the next era. We have shed tears and shared hugs. I will grieve the loss of the comradery and mutual support of so many great individuals. I will miss so much about Bear Creek. I will miss you.
